Activities in Action

Now that the weather finally feels like spring, I am hoping to get the residents outside for walks, fresh air, and some vitamin D.  I am still trying to be creative in the activity department with 1:1 activities and restricted group activities.  We have some new events on the calendar that I hope the residents will enjoy.

In celebration of May we will be passing out May Day baskets to all the residents and learning the story behind May Day.  We will start to discuss newspaper clippings every other week.  I would like the residents to save a newspaper clipping that they would like to discuss or find out more information on.  There is so much going on in the world today I thought it would be good to discuss current events.  This hopefully will turn into a great group activity later down the road.  Exercise is always an option for 1:1 activity, so please let us know if you would rather exercise then do what’s on the activity calendar. The residents are enjoying our happy hour and root beer floats door to door on Fridays.  This month in celebration of Cinco De Mayo we will be doing Margarita’s door to door.  We will also have a sombrero ring toss that day.  We will be making sun catchers and doing a stained-glass butterfly craft to brighten up our windows.  In celebration of Memorial Day, we will be making festive wreaths.  We would like to honor the many Americans who have lost their lives in service.  We plan on getting outside later in the month to do some tie dying as well.

We are celebrating Nurses Week the 6th-12th, and National Nursing Home Week the 10th-16th.  Thank you to all the hard-working nurses out there that have made a difference.  You make our world go round here at The Gardens.  We would like to wish all the mother’s out there a happy Mother’s Day.  We will be offering early morning phone calls on Sunday the 10th.  Please reach out to my email (agerlach@thegardenscr.com)  if you would like to schedule a call with your family member.  Let’s enjoy spring and all those May flowers the April showers brought us!
