Resident Spotlight
Margaret Thing
Margaret Thing was born on September 20th, 1936 in Delaware County near Hopkinton, Iowa. She was raised there on a farm and graduated from Buck Creek High School (now Maquoketa Valley). She remembers every day after school going home to change her clothes so she could run out to do the farm chores. After high school she worked for Monticello Express. She married her husband Curtis in 1959 and the couple moved to Cedar Rapids where she worked at the Souvenir Pencil Factory until she had her son, Jeffery. Then the couple moved to Springville, Iowa where her daughter Julie was born. While in Springville she worked in a small restaurant and raised her kids. When the kids got a little older she worked for Willow Gardens care center in Marion and then later at St. Luke's Hospital in the dietary department. In her free time Margaret enjoys coloring in her adult coloring books and visiting with her friends and family. In the past she used to crochet, making a lot of afghans for her grandchildren and family members. Her and her husband enjoyed traveling and camping together through the years. She also enjoyed playing a lot of card games with her friends, especially Pinnacle. Join us as we celebrate Margaret with a few of her favorite snacks on Thursday, January 31st at 2:00 p.m. located in our Piano Lounge!
