Welcome back to the Self-care corner! Sorry, I have been gone for a minute since my first introduction, but we had more news about visitation and COVID information and we felt that was more important to get the word out. Fall is here and what comes with that is busier schedules, shorter days and colder weather. In the blink of an eye, the holidays will be here before we know it. Autumn is a natural time for reflection and gratitude; many take the time to look back at the year and what all they have accomplished, and goals one still wants to work towards in the upcoming year. Stress is a natural part of life, we can’t completely avoid things that may make us feel anxious, tense, discouraged or frustrated. Self-care helps mitigate the negative stressors that come to our lives, which is why it is important! I know our wonderful Activities team here is making sure all resident’s and tenant’s will get to participate in Autumn activities for the next upcoming months, and a few of those include some self-care.
One of the many Fall time self-care activities I enjoy for myself is savoring a warm drink, whether that drink is tea, coffee, cocoa or a warm cider, or whatever else you enjoy that is warm! The key word used previously is savor, I want you to savor and take the time in during that moment and enjoy it fully, don’t just gulp it down. It may be that little quiet cup of your favorite drink that gets you ready for the day. Or if you’ve had a long day and want to unwind. Be sure to set aside just five to ten minutes and sit down quietly, take a few deep breaths, relax, and enjoy your drink. This will help with the start of the day or at the end of a long day.
