My name is Ashley Gerlach, the Recreation Program Director here at The Gardens of Cedar Rapids. I previously worked for Subway as the Operations Supervisor for the last 18 years. During my years at Subway I helped train mangers and new staff at 10 different locations between Cedar Rapids, Marion, and Center Point. I was born and raised in Cedar Rapids, Iowa and have a 13-year-old son, Kane. Kane is very excited to volunteer during activities such as happy hour! During the winter months I enjoy skiing and visiting Colorado once a year. In the summer I enjoy spending time outside kayaking, hiking, and gardening. I look forward to building relationships with both the staff and residents, getting to know the residents interests, and creating a fun activity program for all.
During the month of December, we have lots of fun new activities planned. To celebrate the holidays residents will be making Christmas ornaments, decorating sugar cookies, playing pass the present, and making New Year’s resolutions. Both assisted living and long-term care residents will be taking a scenic drive to see Christmas lights around town. Assisted Living’s bus will load at 4:30 pm on December 16th and LTC’s will load at 4:30 pm on December 23rd. If you would like to be on this scenic drive, please tell myself or Erika to sign up.
Our Family Christmas Party will be on Saturday, December 7th at noon. If you have not RSVP’d already, please do so! Residents are allowed four guests due to limited space. Lunch will be served as buffet style along with a visit from Santa and Christmas music. Before the Family Christmas party Prairie High School students will be coming at 9:30 am to play bingo with the residents.
Lastly, I would like to thank all our wonderful volunteers who have helped us throughout the year. All those that donated items, helped at bingo, provided help with activities, musical entertainment, and church services, we appreciate you all!
